Field guides / When the plan breaks
What should I carry into a first bunker?
Read the job text before shopping. Supporting people already inside a facility is a different job from clearing a designated hostile site. Do not let the word “bunker” decide whom to target.
What to check
Read the objective and access conditions
Write down the named site, issuer, target or protected group, and the expected hand-in. Check the status of any restricted area during the approach. An unmarked character or the color of one suit is not a reliable identification test.
Test the kit where a mistake is cheap
Pick one affordable primary weapon. Match a magazine to the full weapon name, equip it and check that it loads. While wearing the intended armor, check helmet, remaining ammunition, an accessible medical item and a free hand or space for a required object. RSI’s inventory guide explains how to distinguish inventory locations.
Set a withdrawal point
Choose a return landmark and agree when to leave: unknown target identity, lost extraction, or too little ammunition for a safe exit. Leave valuables not needed for the task in a storage location you can identify. Check that someone can still get the group out.
Worked example
Two magazines fit in your pack; neither feeds the gun
A magazine appears in the same shop category as your rifle. Try it on the equipped rifle before taking the mission. If the reload does not register, find the exact compatible magazine or use a tested combination. Carrying the correct number of wrong magazines will not fix the mismatch.
Proceed or hold
- Proceed when
- You can identify the objective and safe exit, and the actual kit passes the basic equip and reload checks.
- Hold when
- Entry is unauthorized, the target is unclear or you have no workable exit. Break off rather than firing to identify someone.
